Duet Arts

Moments of Joy and Connection

Duet Arts is a Playable Streets initiative using technology and music to create moments of joy and connection for people in aged care and people living with dementia. Playable Streets’ innovative devices and specialised workshops promote play and collaboration through physical and social connections.

‘It’s just about inclusion and joy and that’s breathtakingly refreshing.’
— Heather Burns - Program Manager, Aged and Disability Services Maroondah Council
  • The Sound Touch workshop invites participants to make music through the simple act of touch. By holding hands or connecting skin, the device transforms contact into melodies and musical phrases. Guided by facilitators, participants explore sound together in a playful, accessible way that encourages connection, joy, and presence. The focus is not on performance, but on shared moments of creativity and discovery.

  • The Musical Plants workshop transforms living plants into playful instruments. By gently touching the leaves, participants trigger sounds and melodies, turning nature into an interactive orchestra. Guided by facilitators, the experience encourages curiosity, creativity, and collaboration as people explore music together through plants.

Case Study:

Duet Arts across the Mornington Penninsula

It was such a joy to bring our new SoundTouch instrument into seven aged care centres across Mornington, supported by Mornington Peninsula Arts & Culture. Residents and staff were captivated and deeply moved by this unique experience of sound, connection, and joy. The project has been a beautiful opportunity to share music and touch in ways that open space for play, creativity, and togetherness. ✨🎶
